Of course, Park City is located in the middle of Utah's major ski resorts, so has no lack of visitors, helping to ensure a great downtown. However, in the last 5 years, a new mall like the Bridgeport one in Tualatin opened about 5 miles away, at the freeway interchange. Guess what happens then! When we were in Park City last week, there was an article in the newspaper about an ongoing planning effort for reviving the downtown: putting in more people places (squares, gathering places) and an activity spot for families with kids (a skating rink at the mid-section of the downtown). Keeping downtowns lively takes constant action and assessment of what is working and what is not, and keeping track of the competitors!!
